From its birth to today, the history of Le Coq Sportif has been linked to sports and its successes have gone hand in hand with epic moments in some of the sports it dressed. Emile Camuset began customizing some of his clothes to adapt them for his sporting friends, destined to diverse specialties such as cycling, tennis, rugby and basketball. His fame was growing and the company soon specialized in sportswear. The brand’s first notable success was achieved by becoming an official supplier of the Tour de France cycling jerseys in 1951. Another standout moment for the Le Coq Sportif jerseys was when the French team wore them in the 1958 World Cup. Only two years later, Le Coq Sportif would provide a complete kit for French athletes during the Olympic Games: t-shirts, shorts, sweatshirts and sweatpants that sported the iconic rooster, worn during the feats of the French team. Later, in 1975, the brand completely dressed Arthur Ashe, the first black player to dominate in the legendary tennis championship in Wimbledon. Other sports such as rugby and football, athletes such as Yannick Noah and Maradona wore le Coq Sportif during sporting competitions.
